Specialist in laptop screens, Mobile Pixels Inc is now looking at an innovative solution for desktop screens.
The company thus presents, via an explosive Kickstarter campaign, the Geminos series, resealable dual-screens designed for productivity.
Twin screens that are emulated
Available in two versions, Geminos and Geminos X, this series of desktop PC screens was recently launched by Mobile Pixels Inc via a Kickstarter campaign. The company had committed to a goal of $25,000, which was completed in just 36 minutes. The crowdfunding is currently sitting on the colossal sum of $1.6 million thanks to 2,429 backers, with 18 days left until closing.
If the project reaches $1.75 million in participation (which is very likely to happen), Mobile Pixels Inc will add a touchscreen option for the Geminos X model for an additional $50.
In concrete terms, what is behind this colossal success project? These are two superposed and closable screens, attached to a base with a foot that offers excellent ergonomics. So much so that Mobile Pixels Inc promises that its new project will “ relieve your neck and workspace “.
Unfolding of the technical sheet
If the project turns out to be attractive on paper, what about the technical data sheet? In any case, the two models presented have one thing in common: two superimposed 24-inch LED-backlit IPS screens. The Geminos X differs from the classic model with a resolution of 1440p instead of 1080p.
The base Geminos also boasts 250 nits of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a refresh rate of up to 60Hz, and a painfully painful 14ms response time. The Geminos X is slightly better equipped, with a brightness of 300 nits for an identical contrast ratio, with a refresh rate increased to 75 Hz, but still a weak response time of 14 ms.
Both models feature a 1080p webcam, dual speakers, and a 100W USB-C dock that features an HDMI port, USB port, Ethernet port, mic jack -headset and an SD card reader, among others.
A project that blows a lot of heat, but also a little cold. Such a response time is indeed likely to overshadow the Geminos series. Similarly, the Kickstarter campaign, as successful as it is, does not guarantee that this project will really see the light of day.
If this is the case, however, contributors will be sure to be the first to benefit from these innovative products. The entry ticket is however relatively salty, with the Geminos offered at 499 dollars, against 649 for the Geminos X. With the touchscreen option on the latter, the bill therefore goes to 699 dollars.
