clothing bans, fashion faux-pas, the Miss stylist reveals the rules of the competition

A few days before the Miss France 2024 election, the candidates’ stylist reveals to us the sartorial secrets of the competition. Prohibited, colors to favor, fashion faux-pas to avoid, discover the dress code of regional misses.

Aurore Donguy, celebrity stylist and image consultant, supports the 30 candidates for Miss France 2024. Her role: imagine the outfits of the young women for their month of preparation but also those of Miss France throughout her year of reign. Naf Naf, Pimkie, Camaieu, Promod, Cabaïa… Aurore works with the competition’s partner brands but also with carefully chosen brands: “I favor brands that have pretty pieces and that are mainstream. My goal is to show that we can do cool, easily adaptable looks with accessible brands”.

For the Miss preparatory trip to Guyana, Aurore had to imagine 13 identical official outfits worn by the 30 candidates during their various activities. A challenge that is not simple, since these looks must highlight 30 young women with different styles and body shapes: “This year, there is a lot of diversity in the morphologies of the misses, and that’s good, it shows that to be miss you must not fit into a box but simply feel good about yourself” explains Aurore. Clothing bans, fashion faux-pas, preferred colors… Aurore tells us everything about Miss France’s dress code.

These outfits that regional misses are not allowed to wear

From their regional election, the misses represent the values of the Miss France competition, and this also translates into the way they dress. “There are no real clothing restrictions” explains Aurore. However, the stylist gives certain guidelines to the candidates: “I recommend avoiding black, and favoring pepsy colors like red, yellow, whiteto make it more jovial”.

The Miss France style must be very elegant, which is why Aurore recommends not wearing certain types of clothing: “For shoes, I advise not to wear platform heels. I also try to make sure the bra straps aren’t visible and the necklines aren’t too plunging. Afterwards it’s a question of balance with the rest of the outfit. For me they represent the woman of 2024, and that is a woman who must above all feel good in her body”.

The worst fashion faux pas of a Miss France

The visible bra strap or the bra that shows through clothing” are for Aurore cuts in the Miss France aesthetic. “In my opinion, an outfit is successful when it matches perfectly with the person wearing it, whether in terms of cut, style or colorimetry. We must not appear disguised. It’s not really a fashion faux pas, but more an overall impression that the outfit gives off and also the fact that the person wearing it feels good about themselves. It’s super important, and that’s what I tell them every time” underlines Aurore.
