Investigators evaluate KSK General’s cell phone
Actually, Markus Kreitmayr is supposed to reform and reorganize the Special Forces Command on behalf of Defense Minister Kramp-Karrenbauer. However, the authorities have been investigating the brigadier general for some time. He is said to have been the initiator of a highly controversial action.
In connection with an investigation into the ammunition affair at the Special Forces Command (KSK), the military police seized communications equipment from the KSK commander, Brigadier General Markus Kreitmayr. According to information from the German Press Agency, military police implemented a request for administrative assistance from the Tübingen public prosecutor’s office that was sent on Friday. Based on this information, Bundeswehr experts are already evaluating the general’s service cell phone and a business tablet together with the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office. The military department CERTBw, the Bundeswehr’s Computer Emergency Response Team, is involved.
In spring 2020, according to the Ministry of Defense, there was a collection campaign for ammunition at the KSK location in Calw in Baden-Württemberg. Soldiers were therefore able to return ammunition, with impunity, that had not previously been handed in or stolen after target practice. Kreitmayr is said to have ordered the action, is the allegation. More than 40,000 rounds of ammunition are said to have come together.
The public prosecutor’s office in Tübingen is investigating the initial suspicion of a violation of Section 40 of the Military Penal Act, as the Chief Public Prosecutor Matthias Grundke had declared at the beginning of April. This is comparable to the criminal offense of obstruction of punishment. Kreitmayr is considered innocent until the proceedings have been legally concluded. So far, he has only commented on the matter internally, but not publicly.
The Special Forces Command has been under closer scrutiny for a long time due to right-wing extremist incidents. Troop reform is currently underway. It is interesting that Brigadier General Kreitmayr is one of the key figures in the reorganization of the special unit initiated by Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
