PARIS (Reuters) – Shipping group CMA CGM has suspended the passage of its ships through the Bab al-Mandab Strait entering and exiting the Red Sea, a source close to the matter said.

The move follows the targeting of several ships this week near the Red Sea, including a convoy of ships operated by CMA CGM, the source added.

Attacks carried out for several weeks by Yemen’s Houthis against commercial ships are disrupting navigation via the Suez Canal, the shortest sea route between Asia and Europe.

The group had already announced two weeks ago that it would divert its NEMO service, connecting Europe, the Indian Ocean and Australia, via the Cape of Good Hope.
