Coachella Festival: Stromae, Mika, Madeon, L’Impératrice… Francophones in the spotlight this year

The Coachella festival unveiled its lineup this Thursday, January 15. More than 150 artists will take part in North America’s largest festival, held in Indio, in the Californian desert.

Among them: four French-speaking stars are announced alongside Kanye West, whose arrival is now assured. While the festival has indeed confirmed headliners Ye, Billie Eillish and Harry Styles, Belgian superstar Stromae will also be in attendance.

After seven years away from the music scene, he will release his new album “Multitude” on March 4th. Another French-speaking artist well known to the general public, the Lebanese-British author, composer and performer Mika is also among the invited artists.

125,000 festival-goers expected per day

Still on the French-speaking side, two artists coming directly from France complete the line-up for this 2022 edition. Recently nominated for the Victoires de la Musique, which will be held on February 11, the pop group L’Impératrice will perform this year in India. A regular at the festival, Nantes DJ Madeon is back there for the fourth time.

Phoebe Bridgers, Megan Thee Stallion, Rich Brian, Doja Cat and Karol G are also among the headliners invited to this edition.

Canceled in 2020 and postponed several times in 2021 for having never taken place, the Coachella festival must be held over two weekends, from April 15 to 17 and from April 22 to 24. The organizers hope to be able to run it at full capacity, welcoming 125,000 festival-goers every day, notes AFP. For now, and if health measures are maintained by April, festival-goers will have to provide proof of full vaccination, or a negative test within 72 hours.
