Cobra Kai: good news and bad news for fans of the Netflix series

“Cobra Kai” is coming to an end with its sixth and final season as revealed in its latest trailer…

Cobra Kai is unfortunately soon over. As reported by Variety, the creators of the show, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, announced this Friday in a press release that the upcoming season 6 will be the last.

Rediscovering the world of Karate Kid’s universe has been our humble honor. Doing Cobra Kai allowed us to join the same sacred dojo, once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub and all the amazing original cast members. It also allowed us to play sensei, expand the original storylines, and spawn a new generation of underdogs. We never took this opportunity for granted.

Our goal from day one with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the valley at the time and place we always imagined. It is therefore with immense pride and gratitude that we are able to announce this achievement.”, continues the note. “The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai. While it may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to tell more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because, as we all know, Cobra Kai never dies.

Netflix also released a “retrospective” trailer to reveal the news.

Again featuring the stars of the cult film franchise, William Zabka and Ralph Macchio (also executive producers of the show), Cobra Kai is set more than 30 years after the events of the Karate Kid’s 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament and sets bringing up to date the endless conflict between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, in addition to featuring a new generation of heir champions, led by youngsters Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) and Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan).

The show debuted on YouTube Red in 2018 and has since risen to fame. Picked up by Netflix in June 2020, it continues to delight its fans: thus, its fifth season started with a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and with an incredible number of 107 million hours of streaming viewing.

The first five seasons of Cobra Kai are to be seen or reviewed on Netflix.
