Coca, Danette, Haribo… these products whose prices will deflate a little this summer, Actualité/Actu Quotidien

As indicated by the National Association of Food Industries (Ania) on Tuesday, 39 of the 75 major companies in the food industry will make price cuts on around a thousand major brand products – Coca Cola, Bonduelle, Barilla, Panzani, Lesieur – the Ministry of the Economy informed Le Parisien on Thursday July 13th.

According to the Ministry of the Economy, price reductions should be between 5% and 7% on average. These reductions should be applied for some today, and by September for the latest, either directly on the prices displayed, or through promotional operations and cash discounts.

Decreases of between 5% and 7%

For a handful of references, they will reach 10% – such as certain Bonduelle canned foods and Mars Petcare dog and cat food – that of Haribo sweets will be 7.5%, but for others the reductions will be limited to a few cents , such as Barilla or Panzani pasta. Sugar-free Coke and plain yoghurts and Danettes from Danone will be subject to discounts, the nature of which will vary from one distributor to another.

Requested for weeks by supermarkets and Bercy – while the prices of many raw materials have calmed down (wheat, rapeseed, poultry) – these efforts will be far from offsetting the inflation of food products in recent months, which has peaked at almost 16% annual average increase in March.

The lull is also far from affecting all the major brands, since 36 major players in the food industry have not made these commitments to lower prices, for some because of still high raw material prices. This is, in fact, the case of milk, or even pork, the price of which again increased by nearly 30% year-on-year in June, for example for the Breton market.

A slowdown in inflation still far from being generalized

The easing of inflation in France was confirmed in June, established at 4.5% according to the final figures from INSEE published this Thursday morning, with +13.7% for food after +14.3% in May, an average slowdown, but far from being harmonized according to the categories.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, this slowdown applies to bread and cereals (+14.1% after +14.8% in May), meat (+11.9% after +13.4% ), milk, cheese and eggs (+19.8% after +20.7%), oils and fats (+15.9% after +20.3%), sugar, jam, honey , chocolate and confectionery (+16.3% after +16.8%), as well as for non-alcoholic beverages (+13.6% after +13.9%). Same observation for fresh vegetables (+17% after +18%), and for fish (+3.4% after +4.9%).

But “Conversely, the prices of alcoholic beverages accelerated slightly (+8.8% after +8.7%), those of fresh products “increased at a more sustained pace (+11.2% after +10 .7%) due to the acceleration in fresh fruit prices (+9% after +7%). »

The food expenditure of the French will remain high this summer, and the popular products of the season will not escape it. The franceinfo special “holiday” shopping basket, made up of twenty-five “star of the season” products (chips, sunscreen, tabbouleh, pastis, mozzarella, etc.), increased by an average of 12% between June 2022 and June 2023.
