The company behind AI ChatGPT OpenAI and its historic partner Microsoft have a major new project up their sleeves. This time, it’s a supercomputer that they want to create together. And they didn’t give it just any name!

OpenAI never stops developing amazing new projects. Far from remaining confined to the sole development of its AIs such as ChatGPT, Dall.E or Sora, the company chaired by Sam Altman is taking on the appearance of a future empire every day.

Because after the pharaonic project of building a semiconductor production network, which led it to discuss with all the giants of the tech planet, OpenAI this time wants to develop a supercomputer with Microsoft!

Stargate, the supercomputer of the future?

The Microsoft-OpenAI partnership is surely one of the most fruitful economic alliances in recent times. And we have just had further proof of this with the new information which has just been provided to us by the media The Information.

According to this media, the two companies wish to bring to the world a new supercomputer based on artificial intelligence, for which an investment of up to 100 million dollars would be made. Proof of the potentially exceptional nature of the upcoming product, this project is called “Stargate”. A name well known to science fiction fans, since it was that of the series in which an extra-terrestrial portal allowed the American army to travel instantly across the galaxy.

Microsoft and OpenAI at the midpoint

Funding for the supercomputer is provided by Microsoft, which is developing it as part of its data center network. And the Redmond giant as well as OpenAI have, according to the same source, already made good progress on the Stargate project. They would be in the third of five phases planned before the final design, which should take place by 2028.

However, the release of this supercomputer, which should be promising, is also subject to the completion of other projects at OpenAI, and among them, the rapid completion of the new GPT-5 version. What should be done according to The Informationfor whom this version of the OpenAI language model should be launched in early 2025.
