Everything has an end, except the doge hype: For a good cause, an American sausage manufacturer is auctioning off a pack of “Doge Dogs” – including 10,000 DOGE.

The American sausage manufacturer Oscar Mayer jumped on the Dogecoin hype with a charity campaign. On August 4th, the company announced the eBay auction of a pack of “Hot Doge Wieners”, a special edition of its hot dog sausages. Although these do not contain dog meat, they do contain turkey, chicken and pork. The delicacy for Dogecoin friends: In addition to special packaging, the winner of the auction can look forward to 10,000 DOGE.

The net proceeds should go to a good cause. The money is to be received by the non-profit organization Feeding America, which can be roughly compared with the food bank in Germany.

Dogecoin auction with uncertain outcome

The Dogecoin community reacted enthusiastically and with plenty of memes to the promotion.

Actually, the campaign should last until August 7th. However, the link to the hot doge auction leads to a page after which the auction has already ended – without bids.

Meanwhile, some tweets from Dogecoin fans who have bid, prove that this cannot be true. The most recent tweet at the time of going to press shows this $ 3,050 as the highest of 72 submitted bids.

In the meantime, Oscar Mayer has admitted that the link no longer works. The explanation is rather vague:

You really took this to extremes. The link is no longer available, but will be back soon!

Was the interest in the hot dogs so great that it brought Ebay to its knees? The power of memes should not be underestimated (see Gamestop), but there could also be a less bullish factor behind the end of the auction. The auction of cryptocurrencies, mining contracts and paper wallets violates the terms and conditions of Ebay. At the time of going to press, the offer is still offline. It remains to be seen whether the promotion turned out to be a shot in the oven. Most recently, the Brazilian offshoot of Burger King tried its hand at Dogecoin marketing.
