Coca-Cola and Pepsi are engaged in a new battle, this time concerning electric trucks.

And if Pepsi bet on the Tesla Semi, Coca-Cola is already rolling in Renault Trucks.

Pepsi and Coca-Cola, a historic rivalry… now electric!

Rivals for more than 120 years in the soda market, Pepsi and Coca-Cola embarked in the 1980s on a series of advertising and comparison campaigns that people in their forties (among others) still remember today. In 2022, the two American giants will face off in a completely different field, that of transport.

Indeed, it has been known for a few weeks now that Pepsi will have a fleet of 100 Tesla Semi electric trucks. On the Coca-Cola side, we chose another market player, namely Renault Trucks.

In the United States, Tesla will therefore very soon collaborate with Pepsi for the transport of its drinks. On the Renault Trucks side, we recently split a tweet addressed directly to Elon Musk and Tesla, indicating that “ some speak, others act “. Today, Renault Trucks formalizes its collaboration with Pepsi’s historical rival: Coca-Cola.

Also, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) will now ensure last mile deliveries to its local customers in Belgium with 30 electric trucks from the French brand. The first five Renault Trucks E-tech D and D Wide vehicles have already started driving in the Antwerp region.

In the configuration chosen by Coca-Cola, Renault Trucks electric trucks can cover a daily distance of approximately 200 km. For each truck, a charging station is provided on the site, terminals which are also supplied exclusively with green energy. In 2023, 30 electric trucks will be used by CCEP.

Anxious to reduce its carbon footprint, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners also announces that it has already reduced packaging, in addition to offering 100% recycled plastic bottles in Belgium. Last year, according to the NGO Break Free From Plastic, the American brand was the one that generated the most waste in the environment, ahead of PepsiCo and Unilever.

After betting on international stars in the 80s and 90s (Michael Jackson in particular for Pepsi, and Paula Abdul or Elton John for Coca-Cola), the two American companies therefore begin a new battle, to say the least electric, by the intermediary of Tesla and Renault Trucks.

And you, are you more Coca-Cola or Pepsi?
