After the capricious weather of the last few days it is now bitterly cold. In some regions of Switzerland, temperatures fell well below the 0-degree limit.

The Bise whistles icily around our ears these days and without gloves it tingles our fingertips. On the night of Wednesday, the temperatures across Switzerland were below zero degrees. All over Switzerland? Not quite. Geneva is an exception. The temperature there stayed at exactly 0 degrees, writes “SRF Meteo”. The reason for the drastic cooling is, according to «Meteonews», a bise current from the southeast.
The record is deep in the red
It is really bitter cold in the Alps. In Andermatt, for example, the temperature dropped to -24.3 degrees and in some places in Switzerland even -28.4 degrees were measured. Not that it would be cozy and warm in Basel at minus five degrees, but at least not as cold as in the mountain valleys. The cold record in Switzerland was measured 31 years ago at -52.2 on Glattalp SZ. As «Meteo Schweiz» writes on Twitter, such low temperatures are nothing unusual.
For comparison: a freezer or a chest should have a constant temperature of -18 degrees.
Sunny winter weather
In addition to gloves and thick woolen socks, you should also equip yourself with sunglasses for the next few days. With the cold weather, the sun comes in many places. On Wednesday we will be accompanied by a bit of high fog, but it should dissipate during the day. Also on Thursday, towards the weekend, the sun is smiling after the fog has cleared. In many places it is even up to three degrees again.
