Footballer Coulibaly suffers a heart attack

During a league game in Qatar, soccer player Ousmane Coulibaly suddenly collapses on the grass with a heart attack. Rescue workers immediately bring the Mali national player to a clinic. The 32-year-old is now on the mend.

Mali’s national soccer player Ousmane Coulibaly has suffered a heart attack during a league match in Qatar. During the game between his club Al-Wakrah and Al-Rayyan, the 32-year-old collapsed shortly before the end of the first half and received emergency medical care on the pitch.

The pictures show how an ambulance then drove onto the square. Coulibaly is in medical care, the league announced in a statement that evening and wished the defender a speedy recovery. A spokesman for Al-Wakrah said Coulibaly had been taken unconscious to a hospital. His condition is now stable. The canceled game should be continued at a later point in time.

Coulibaly’s breakdown brought back unpleasant memories of the Dane Christian Eriksen. The midfielder collapsed on the pitch during the European Championship group game against Finland in Copenhagen on June 12, 2021 and had to be resuscitated. Eriksen was put on a defibrillator after the collapse. This recognizes cardiac arrhythmias and triggers shocks in an emergency.

The Argentine Sergio “Kun” Agüero from FC Barcelona recently ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 33 because of his heart problems. The striker suddenly collapsed in the 40th minute of Barça’s league game against Deportivo Alavés at Camp Nou in late October. He grabbed his chest, gasped, and was changed. Doctors later diagnosed malignant arrhythmias.

Coulibaly played for Mali for many years, but was not nominated for the Africa Cup. At club level, he was mainly active in France for Stade Brest 29 and in Greece for Panathinaikos Athens and AO Platanias.
