According to him, the language level of French schoolchildren is unsatisfactory: “we give the students the floor before giving them the language. The result is that the French no longer speak French.”
“School is a big sick body and even a big dying body (…). We see it from top to bottom of the social ladder. There are overqualified ministers or experts who wonder how to get out of this crisis”, says the philosopher at the microphone of Europe 1.
“We lower the requirements”
According to him, this drop in level is caused by “reforms inspired by an idea of equality that has gone crazy. That’s the problem. We put the weaker students in the more advanced classes and we lower the requirements for adjust to their capacity”.
He also addresses the question of selection: “selection was invented by Republicans to put an end to co-optation. It is a great democratic instrument”. “You need a certain selection rather than positive discrimination. You need equal opportunities rather than diversity at all levels.”
