This solar pavilion is intended to provide a new, fresh look at the topic of photovoltaics. The colorful modules create a completely different look than what you are used to from conventional house roofs.

- Architects present an innovative solar pavilion as part of the Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven.
- The roof consists of a total of 380 colored solar modules.

PV modules on house roofs can not only blind you horribly, they are also generally not considered to be particularly aesthetic. This is not conducive to public acceptance. This is the opinion of the Dutch architecture firm V8, which, together with the solar specialists Marjan van Aubel Studio, are demonstrating this alternative.
The pavilion was designed as an attraction for Dutch Design Week (ddw), which has the motto ‘get set’. The temporary building is intended to bring visitors closer to the power of the sun and offers, among other things, an interior area heated by infrared heaters.
The electricity required for this is generated with the help of 380 colorful solar panels. “It’s time we looked at solar energy with fresh eyes, as a personal part of our culture. It’s time for solar design and this pavilion demonstrates the change,” the makers said in a press release.
You cannot buy the solar modules used at the moment. Because black and blue modules absorb more light than other colored ones, the lower performance compared to standard modules is still a problem because the efficiency is lower. The Fraunhofer Institute Halle is therefore researching colorful solar cells that can also be used to design facades or even in combination with monuments.
