Suspended from France Inter since the beginning of May for having repeated controversial remarks about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the comedian was notified by Radio France of his ouster from France Inter this Tuesday.

France Inter comedian Guillaume Meurice was fired “for serious misconduct” by Radio France, after repeating his controversial remarks about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he announced to AFP on Tuesday. Public radio notified him by mail of the “early termination of (his) contract for serious misconduct,” he said, even though he had been suspended since the beginning of May.

“Repeated disloyalty”

The president of Radio France Sibyle Veil justified Tuesday the dismissal of comedian Guillaume Meurice by his “repeated disloyalty”, while assuring that “neither freedom of expression, nor humor, have ever been threatened” in the public group, in a message to staff.

By repeating his controversial remarks about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Guillaume Meurice notably “ignored the warning he had received, the warning from Arcom” (the audiovisual regulator) and “he does not left no other choice than to draw the consequences of his obstinacy and his repeated disloyalty,” wrote the boss of Radio France in this message consulted by AFP.
