Inexcusable. Plain and simple. The racist derailment of Wil-President Maurice Weber in an away game at Xamax cannot be made up for by anything. Neither by inviting the more than irritated Wiler team to a training camp. Even with lip service, which Weber also only publicly announced months after the incident, after the case had landed in the media.
If the president of a professional club yells the N-word through the stadium during a game, there is only one option: Weber has to give up his offices. With this racist derailment, he is no longer sustainable either as Wil-President or as a member of the League Committee.
Sad that Weber and Wil wanted to sit out the incident
The only option is to resign. Or if this continues to fail: The league was kicked out of the committee, which, ironically, staged a major anti-racism campaign a few weeks ago.
One might argue that in football there are always insults and insults hailing down from the stands. It’s like that – you’ll never be able to keep the cracker among the fans, unfortunately also those with racist outbursts, out of the stadiums.
But abusive as a club boss? Inexcusable. Weber crossed a red line, even if it happened in the affect and he is not a racist in everyday life.
The fact that Weber and FC Wil wanted to sit out the bad incident makes things all the more sad.
