The Court of Cassation orders this Tuesday a new trial for Éric Zemmour for “disputing a crime against humanity”. This concerns the polemicist’s remarks about Marshal Pétain in 2019, claiming that the latter had “saved” French Jews during the Second World War.

The Court of Cassation on Tuesday canceled the release of Éric Zemmour and ordered a new trial of the politician for “disputing a crime against humanity”, for having argued in 2019 that Marshal Pétain had “saved” French Jews during WWII.

In this case, Éric Zemmour had been acquitted by the Paris court in 2021 then by the Court of Appeal in 2022. The highest court of the judicial order ruled on the appeals brought by the civil party associations and by the general prosecutor’s office.
