A parliamentary commission of inquiry at the initiative of the Republicans aims to establish the reasons for France’s loss of energy sovereignty. This commission will study for six months the contours of French energy policy in recent years and audition former Presidents of the Republic such as Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande.

Why did France lose its energy sovereignty? While shortages of electricity and gas threaten winter, the Republicans demand answers and decide to launch a parliamentary commission of inquiry to establish the reasons for this loss of sovereignty and energy independence of France. For this, the party wishes to audition the former presidents of the French Republic and examine for six months the contours of their energy policy. The Republicans therefore want to find those responsible. In their sights: Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande.

Republicans target Sarkozy, Hollande, Macron

The two former presidents could be heard by the National Assembly and will have to justify their energy policy. For Raphaël Schellenberger, the head of the commission, “the deputies only seek the truth and not the guilt”. “Obviously, there will be political responsibilities that will emerge from our work, but I believe that it will be the need to have a balanced work between the definition of responsibility to understand why we are here today”, specifies- he at the microphone of Europe 1.

Republican deputies are also targeting the current tenant of the Élysée, greatly implicated in France’s loss of energy sovereignty. For years, the right has criticized the Head of State for the closure of several nuclear power plants, but Emmanuel Macron will not be heard, protected by the French Constitution.
