“Community cent” higher – water rescuers are finally better protected

The increased “municipal cent” and the state ensure the continued existence of the water rescue service. A boat and an emergency bus are giving the helpers in the Middle Lower Inn Valley new impetus, as was shown at the annual general meeting.

At the annual general meeting in Kramsach, operations manager Michael Außerhofer looked back with satisfaction on the status quo: “The increased support from the municipalities is helping us, for example with two new emergency vehicles.” These cost around 130,000 euros, one of which has already been inaugurated. The same goes for the boat “Marion”, the necessary 6,000 euros were financed with the company’s own funds. Deductibles for equipment can be eliminated. Of course, you don’t swim in money, but the current help from the municipalities (40 cents per year and per resident) is a good basis. In addition, the state is contributing 50,000 euros for the Tyrol water rescue service. Previously, deductibles for equipment often had to be paid, but these can now be eliminated. “An additional motivation,” says the head of the operations center happily. The Middle Lower Inn Valley Water Rescue looks after twelve communities up to Angath, 44 members are currently actively on duty, and there are currently around 300 in total.Unfortunately, all help came too late on four missions. In addition to swimming courses including exams, snorkeling and diving offers and surveillance services, there were 18 missions, including the recovery of four fatalities. One challenging part was the recovery of a car near the Inn loop in Kirchbichl. It was a man from the Lower Inn Valley (79) who had been missing since 2021. At least this helped to clarify this mysterious case.
