(AOF) – Compagnie des Alpes carried out its activity update for its first half of 2021-2022 (October-March) on Thursday evening. Thus, the operator of ski areas and theme parks achieved consolidated revenue of 541.2 million euros over the period, an increase of 16.2% compared to the first half of 2018-2019 ( pre-crisis). The group explains that the activity of Leisure parks was record in the first quarter and that that of Ski areas was sustained during the second quarter.

In terms of the outlook for Ski areas, Compagnie des Alpes is now confident that, over the year as a whole, the level of activity will be much higher than that of the reference year 2018-2019 ( retired from leaving Les 2 Alpes).

With regard to leisure parks, the group renews its optimism “with equivalent sanitary conditions”. It intends to rely on strengthening the attractiveness of its sites with significant new features at Parc Astérix (Tonnerre 2 Zeus), Futuroscope (Chasseurs de Tornades), Bellewaerde Park (new show) and Familypark (new Flume Ride ).

The Walibi Belgium site will also be able to fully rely on the “full year” effect of its mega coster Kondaa.

Very poor performance for world tourism

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) estimates that the sector lost 2,000 billion dollars in 2021 (around 1,780 billion euros), i.e. as much as in 2020. Due to the health crisis, international tourist arrivals remained at 70 75% lower than those observed before the pandemic, despite arrivals which rebounded during the summer season. UNWTO is not venturing into any forecast for 2022 due to uneven vaccination rates, new strains of Covid-19, and volatile oil prices.
