Vegan leather? We now rely on Mushroom Leather!
When it comes to mushrooms, very few people think of handbags, clothes and shoes. But that should change immediately, because mushroom leather is not just a crazy new word, but above all a hyped and sustainable innovation for leather goods! Labels such as Stella McCartney, Hermès or Balenciaga are now gradually making the first attempts to establish mushroom leather as the new go-to leather alternative on the market. In 2021, Hermès, together with the organic company Mycoworks, started to produce a vegan handbag from mushrooms.
Since Mushroom Leather brings some positive changes with it, further distribution is quite conceivable. The production is not only significantly cheaper and easier than conventional animal leather, it is also much more environmentally friendly. The energy consumption is lower and after the service life the material can be easily biodegraded. So we can only remain curious as to which products will be made from mushrooms in the future.
