Company relocation: how telcos and workspace are changing habits

Migrating from one site to another will involve taking risks in the operational aspect. How will you ensure continuity of service during the migration? Because continuity is not an empty word. Achieving it allows you to escape emergency management and operating losses.

But upstream of a migration project, other questions arise. The strong trend of teleworking requires asking the question of the use of telco tools in this often hybrid “work of the future”.

An example ? During a site relocation of a Parisian media company last June, employees went from the logic of open space – where each employee has a dedicated and fixed workspace – to that of flex office.

The preferred means of internal communication are chat, e-mail and videoconference

On the telco side, this change of workspace has led to changes in habits. Videoconferencing is now supported by screens positioned in the meeting rooms and in the cabins reserved for calls.

From an infrastructure point of view, the RJ45 sockets are always there, just in case. But it is Wi-Fi that supports all of the exchanges. And in six months, not once has he been caught out. Whereas in the old premises, router problems clearly had an influence on team productivity.

The move also led to the elimination of fixed VoIP telephony in favor of a mobile line for each employee. What to contact and be contacted by customers and partners.

Admittedly, it was necessary to change the telephone number, the line transfer having been left out. But in a professional context, mentioning the contact details at the bottom of the e-mail signature is an economical and effective way to overcome this feature.

Especially since the preferred means of internal communication are chat, always and again e-mail, and videoconferencing. And this tendency is also reinforced to work with the external elements of the company.

Telecommuting changes habits

The implementation of teleworking rules in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago has in a sense facilitated this movement towards remote communication.

No one now formalizes that the first working meetings within the framework of a new project are organized by videoconference instead of physical meetings. Especially since the terms of teleworking have not changed.

Finally, the rise of mobile telephony and videoconferencing has led to a change in the role of technical teams in the management of telephony and communication solutions in cloud mode.

Now, no more server room, no more work to do on connectivity. On the other hand, if the work of fleet management and fleet management remains, the technical team can look further into the management, optimization and cost management of communication solutions, just like telephone packages.
