In the field of GPS computers for bicycles, as in that of sports watches, Garmin is a market leader. With its Garmin Edge 1040, Edge 840 or Edge 540 models, the American manufacturer equips most cyclists who want to have GPS tracking with mapping directly on their handlebars.

To face this hegemony, the Coros brand announced this Monday its very first GPS computer for bicycles, the Coros Dura. As with sports watches, the manufacturer’s approach is based on both strong arguments and a particularly attractive price.

Concretely, the Coros Dura is equipped with a 2.7-inch diagonal MIP transflective touch screen. Enough to ensure good autonomy thanks to the lower consumption of MIP technology compared to Amoled. Furthermore, this technology has the merit of allowing better readability in direct sunlight, without disturbing reflections. However, when used at night, the screen can be backlit.

Autonomy that can reach up to “several months”

The Coros Dura also features a battery for up to 70 hours of use with dual-frequency GPS tracking and 120 hours of pedaling with all-system GNSS tracking. The meter also has a photosensitive surface for continuous solar charging during use. According to Coros, each hour of charging in the sun allows you to regain up to two hours of battery life. In other words, if you only ride during the day, the Coros Dura should never discharge and Coros, for its part, announces “several months» of use.

Among the functionalities of the counter, Coros announces that its Dura allows you to display the route as well as the cartography. It is also possible to plan your route in advance with automatic recalculation of the route in the event of a bad road taken. The computer also benefits from Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity in order to directly connect a heart rate belt or armband, a power sensor or a bicycle radar. It will also allow you to program training sessions generated within the Coros mobile application.

Finally, regarding the counter itself, it is possible to control it not only using the touch screen, but also with a wheel positioned on the side, similar to what Coros already offers with its watches Pace 3, Apex 2 or Vertix 2S. The case, measuring 99.5 x 60.8 x 15.7 cm, can be attached directly to the handlebars using a supplied bracket.

Coros Dura price and availability

The Coros Dura is available for pre-order this Monday at a price of 289 euros. The first deliveries are expected around July 15. For comparison, the Garmin Edge 540 Solar meter was launched at a price of 449.99 euros and is now around 320 euros.
