Mike Pence officially wants to become President of the USA

Mike Pence has now officially announced that he wants to be the Republican candidate in the upcoming presidential campaign. He does that in a video – with a lot of pathos, references to Lincoln and Reagan and attacks on the Democrats.

Former US Vice President Mike Pence has publicly announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination for 2024. “I announce today before God and my family that I am running for President of the United States,” he said in a video posted to Twitter. The 64-year-old had already submitted the necessary documents to the Federal Electoral Commission on Monday.

With the application, Pence is also challenging his former boss Donald Trump, who wants to run again after his defeat in 2020. Pence was his deputy from 2017 to 2021. The two have a difficult relationship – and a mixed past together.

The presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. An internal party primary decides who ultimately becomes the official candidate. With his announcement, Pence is also expanding the field of Republican aspirants. The most prominent of these, alongside Trump, are Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. More are likely to follow.
