Completely without electricity: This cool box keeps the temperature for three weeks

Most mobile homes have comfortable refrigerators, which often even have a freezer compartment. But when you go to the beach, the question arises: where to put the drinks and food that need to be cooled? This is where cool boxes come into play, just like when you have a picnic.

Some time ago we tested a battery-operated model called the Ecoflow Glacier, which didn’t really convince us and was also very expensive at over 1,000 euros. A welcome alternative, “Qool”, can currently be seen at various trade fairs.

The cooling box developed in Germany called the Qool Box is designed to keep food fresh for up to ten days. Thanks to the insulation, ice cubes can even stay frozen for up to three weeks. All of this is designed to work without electricity, using only the vacuum insulation. And it shouldn’t matter if you open the box in between.

The box does not need to be actively cooled and cannot be cooled. This makes it light and inexpensive, as well as robust. Of course, if there is no compressor, nothing can break. Instead, so-called temperature elements provide the cooling.

To put it simply, these are “ice packs” that you first bring up to temperature in the freezer. Instead of water, however, a special material is used. In principle, the cool box can also be cooled with normal ice cubes if they are packed in a plastic bag. The boxes made in Würzburg do not have a meltwater drain.

The Qool Box is available in various designs starting at 430 euros including cooling elements. Accessories include a wooden cutting board that fits perfectly on the lid of the cool box.
