The Socialist Party has announced that it has reached an “agreement in principle” on the constituencies with Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s La France insoumise in view of the legislative elections which will be held on June 12 and 19. Discussions continue on Wednesday.

La France insoumise and the Socialist Party have found an “agreement in principle” on the constituencies, the Socialists obtaining 70, and a “global agreement is on the right track”, announced Wednesday the direction of the PS. “Discussions on the merits should continue this morning,” said the source. “The National Council of the PS will be seized as soon as possible of a global political agreement and it is he who will decide if he validates the content”, added the management of the PS.

LFI in a position of strength at the dawn of the elections

Rebellious and socialists have been negotiating since last Wednesday. The former had sent an ultimatum to the latter on Tuesday evening, but discussions continued overnight on the thorny issue of constituencies, in view of the elections on June 12 and 19.

The PS wanted to keep the maximum of its twenty outgoing deputies. But LFI, in a position of strength after Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s 22% in the presidential election, considered its interlocutors “too greedy” given their score of 1.7% in the presidential election. LFI has already concluded a legislative agreement with EELV on Sunday evening and the PCF on Tuesday, creating the “New popular ecological and social union”.
