Who can do more can do less. In partnership with Asus, Nvidia is taking advantage of Computex to discuss the arrival of PC gaming screens equipped with 500 Hz panels.
Just a few days ago, we were talking about the work of panel manufacturer AU Optronics on new ultra-responsive PC screens for gamers with a refresh rate of 480 Hz. Nvidia is going (a little) further by announcing the upcoming arrival of a 500 Hz screen, in partnership with Asus. The Asus ROG Swift 500 Hz Gaming Monitor (that’s its name, for the moment), will obviously be aimed primarily at cyberathletes, as evidenced by the name given to its TN type panel, renamed E-TN (for “Esports TN”).
Compatible with G-Sync adaptive refresh technology (unspecified on the operating range), this screen will make it possible to calculate end-to-end system latency via the Nvidia Reflex Analyzer, provided of course that it is equipped with a card GeForce graphics and a compatible mouse (the Cooler Master MM310 and MM730 have just joined this list).
With a diagonal of 24 “and limited to Full HD (1080p), this screen has a good chance of being acclaimed by professional teams on games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valorant, Overwatch or Rainbow Six: Siege.
In order to demonstrate the – questionable – interest of a 500 Hz screen, Nvidia has posted an explanatory video. Undoubtedly, the gain in responsiveness compared to a 144 Hz screen is visible, but will it really be decisive when we know that it is still impossible, in the majority of cases, to reach 500 Hz stably on his favorite game? Leaving nothing to chance and wishing to be able to benefit from any advantage available, competitive players will undoubtedly be caught up in this novelty, for which we know neither the marketing window nor the selling price.
