Computex 2023 – A 49-inch 240 Hz QD-Oled monitor from MSI

The MSI 491C OLED monitor in action.

At Computex 2023 in Taipei (Taiwan), MSI presented its first 49-inch QD-Oled monitor. In 32:9 format, this curved panel with a radius of 1.8 m (1800R) displays a definition of 5120 x 1440 pixels. The manufacturer announces a peak brightness of 1000 cd / m², VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and a response time of only 0.03 ms thanks to Oled technology.

Unlike 34-inch QD-Oled monitors that support a native frequency of 175Hz (for example, the Philips Evnia 34M2C8600 we tested earlier this year), the MSI 491C OLED will support 240Hz.

It is currently only a prototype and the manufacturer assures us that the final model will be thinner. As far as connectivity is concerned, this computing device has a DisplayPort input, an HDMI, a USB-C port, a headphone output and two USB 3.2 ports. The USB hub also functions as a keyboard/mouse switch (KVM), allowing the same keyboard-mouse combination to be used with two different sources. It also supports multiple on-screen sources, such as Picture by Picture (pictures side by side) and Picture in Picture (picture in picture). On the ergonomic side, it will be necessary to be satisfied with an adjustment of the inclination, because the monitor does not seem to be adjustable in height.

The connection.

The MSI 491C OLED is not the first 49-inch 240 Hz QD-Oled monitor. Samsung unveiled the first model in January at CES 2023. Remember that QD-Oled (Quantum Dot Oled) panels are manufactured by Samsung Display , the Samsung subsidiary dedicated to this market. Like the Samsung model, the MSI 491C OLED should be available at the end of 2023. The price is still unknown, but the 34-inch model is priced around €1300, so expect a price of at least €2000.
