Con artist Bernard Madoff’s sister found dead with her husband

Bernard Madoff’s sister was found dead last week with her husband in their Florida home. It was a murder followed by a suicide.

Sondra Wiener and her husband were found dead last Thursday at their home in Boyton Beach, Florida. Authorities say it was a murder-suicide. Sondra Wiener is the sister of Bernard Madoff, the American, who died in 2021 at the age of 82 after being sentenced to 150 years in prison for committing the biggest fraud of all time. The “New York Times” reports that paramedics arrived at the couple’s home after receiving a call. They found Sondra Wiener, 87, and her husband Marvin, 90, both shot dead. The autopsy will have to confirm the exact causes of their death.

People magazine reports that the Wieners, like many people, were also trapped by Bernie Madoff’s frauds, losing millions of dollars. Before the scam was revealed, they lived in Valencia Lakes, in a residence with a clubhouse, a swimming pool, a hammam. But in 2009, they moved into a three-bedroom house worth $315,000. The same year, Sondra Wiener’s son, David Wiener, told the “New York Post” that his mother was among the thousands of people victimized by Bernard Madoff. Losses from his scheme are estimated at nearly $65 billion in total.

The death of Bernard Madoff’s sister marks a tragic new chapter within the family. The con artist’s son killed himself in his Manhattan apartment in the early morning of December 11, 2010, the second anniversary of his father’s arrest. Then, in 2014, the former businessman’s second son died of cancer. As for Bernard Madoff and Sondra Wiener’s brother, Peter, he also served a 10-year prison sentence for his involvement in the fraud. He was convicted in 2012 and released from prison in November 2019, placed under house arrest until August 2020.
