Concern about spread – City of Zurich warns Street Parade visitors about monkeypox – News

  • The city of Zurich warns the visitors of the Street Parade against infection with monkeypox. You should protect yourself.
  • The city is also asking the federal government to urgently get a vaccine.
  • In a message on Friday, Health Director Andreas Hauri (GLP) asked the federal government to procure the vaccine quickly.

The vaccine is not yet available in Switzerland. “In view of the increasing number of infections and after the WHO has classified the spread of the monkeypox virus as an international health emergency, this is incomprehensible,” said Andreas Hauri (GLP), head of the health and environment department, in the statement.

The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) has already spoken out in favor of central procurement of the vaccine. However, the Federal Council has the last word and nothing has been decided yet.

An appeal was made with the message from Friday to the participants in the Street Parade, which takes place on Saturday. It is up to the participants to protect themselves as best they can. The city referred to the recommendations of the WHO.

It is therefore important to avoid contact with infected people, wash your hands thoroughly with soap, use a condom during sex and cough in the crook of your arm.
