Sir Tom Jones had to cancel a concert at short notice. The reason is a laryngitis, it says in a statement.

Sir Tom Jones is still on stage at the age of 82. However, he had to cancel a concert at short notice due to health problems. The British singer was unable to perform in Budapest on Tuesday evening (July 12). In a statement on Instagram he apologized to the fans.

In the night from Monday to Tuesday he “woke up with an uncomfortable feeling in his throat”. A doctor diagnosed Jones with “viral laryngitis”, i.e. laryngitis caused by viruses. The specialist urgently advised him to postpone the concert and “prescribed me medication and voice rest”.

Reports of collapse are ‘pure rumor’

Sir Tom Jones has also denied reports that he had a breakdown. “I never ‘broke down’ anywhere, it’s purely a rumour,” he said. Among other things, the “Daily Mail” had reportedthat Jones had allegedly suffered a breakdown about an hour before his concert. An unspecified source explained: “Tom Jones has collapsed so his concert tonight has been canceled and doctors have been called to the stadium.”

“Hopefully the inflammation will subside soon as I look forward to continuing my wonderful summer tour,” Jones said in a statement. His concert in Budapest will now be postponed to August 16th. The singer, who became famous with hits like “It’s Not Unusual”, “Sex Bomb” and “She’s A Lady”, is also coming to Germany on his tour. He performs in Fulda (July 20), Cologne (July 28), Kiel (August 6) and Halle an der Saale (August 7).
