Schalke refuses help from "rescuer" Tönnies
The financially troubled Bundesliga soccer team Schalke 04 apparently waived an offer of help from its former supervisory board chairman Clemens Tönnies. According to matching media reports, parts of the supervisory board are said to have voted against.
In the dramatic relegation battle of the Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 apparently does not want any financial help from former supervisory board boss Clemens Tönnies. This is what the "Ruhr Nachrichten" and Sky report. Accordingly, there was not a sufficient majority in the royal blues supervisory board on Wednesday evening. The Schalke press liabilities of at least 200 million euros. In addition, the club has received a guarantee from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Tönnies had recently offered his help for the financially troubled club. The condition should have been that the board of directors and the supervisory board vote in favor. According to "Ruhr Nachrichten", however, two members of the supervisory board were against it.
The 64-year-old meat manufacturer resigned from his offices at FC Schalke on June 30th after several scandals. In 2019, he caused a stir with statements about Africans criticized as racist. In June there was massive criticism of the working conditions there after a corona outbreak in his meat factory.
The bottom of the table is urgently looking for reinforcements in attack and in the right-back position in the fight against relegation. The last candidate was Mitchell Weiser from Bayer Leverkusen.
