Configure your medical file on iPhone, it’s fast and very useful

Since 2015, Apple has allowed rescuers to access certain important information in an emergency. You still need to configure the function.

Locked down, an iPhone can’t do much. It provides access to the time, volume control, camera, flashlight and calculator… And that’s about it. You absolutely need a code to unlock it and launch an application, unless you are in an emergency.

Indeed, even without a SIM card, an iPhone can make a call to an authorized number (112, 15, 17, 18, etc.). Just tap the “Emergency” option at the bottom left of the code entry menu to access this option. There is also the medical form here. But you have to configure it first. We explain how to do it, whether you are a new iPhone owner or a long-time user.

A function that can save life

Who remembers ICE contacts? At one time, people were advised to add “ICE” to the names of their parents’ or spouses’ contacts. This label, which stands for “In Case of Emergency”, allows a rescuer to call the right person in the event of an emergency. Today, it is no longer needed.

Thanks to the medical card, first aiders can access a lot of crucial information in one place. First name, name, age, allergies, background medical, blood group, drugs taken, weight, cut, spoken languages… The medical form, which must be filled in manually, can really save a life. It also contains an “emergency contact” list in which you can link the files of your loved ones, while indicating your links (parents, friends, partners, etc.).

How to configure your medical file?

The iPhone medical file is configured in the application Health, pre-installed from iOS 9. This app can be deleted, but you can get it from the App Store anytime. To access the medical file, you must:

  • Open app Health.
  • Click on the photo (or generic image) top rightwhich match his profile.
  • Choose Medical form.
  • Fill in your data and choose your emergency contacts, then validate with okay.

After that, remember to activate the options “Show in locked mode” and ” Emergency call “. One allows rescuers to access it at any time, the other allows Apple to send its data to the emergency services in case of an accident.

SOS, accident or satellite call: the other uses of the medical file

It is not only first aiders who can use the medical form. For example, if you trigger an SOS (by pressing the side button 5 times, in the event of a violent fall or intrusion into your home, for example), Apple can send its data to the emergency services. Just in case.

Other examples: the medical form is automatically sent in the event of a serious car accident, without a quick response from you, or in the event of an emergency satellite communication. The medical file will then save you time, since Apple will automatically send the correct information on the identity of the person in danger.
