BRUSSELS (Reuters) – European aid to the Palestinians will not be suspended, announced a statement from the European Commission on Monday evening, which contradicted statements made earlier in the day.

The European Commission will conduct a review of its aid to the Palestinians following the attack by Hamas in southern Israel, the statement added.

“That said, since no payments are planned in the near future, no payments will be suspended,” the Commission said.

This statement contradicts remarks made earlier by Oliver Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, who announced all the settlements due to the Hamas attack on Israel.
