This new prototype from Motorola is a smartphone halfway between cutting-edge technology and ready-to-wear.

It’s been a few years now since the main players in the smartphone market have expanded their activities to another sector, that of smartwatches. At Apple, Google, Samsung and even OnePlus, we can offer ourselves a complete ecosystem, bringing together a smartphone, connected watch, computer, headphones… At Motorola, we have just presented a new concept of smartphone, capable of transforming… into a smartwatch.

A (very) flexible prototype from Motorola

As part of Lenovo Tech World, Motorola was keen to demonstrate its “ Adaptive Display Concept “, an Android smartphone that is quite classic in appearance, built around a large 6.9” screen. So far nothing very special, except that the smartphone is flexible. Not folding, no, flexible.

For this, the smartphone has various flexion points which allow it to take many shapes. In particular, it can be folded slightly to place it on a table, and thus benefit from a 4.6″ screen. But that’s not all, since the Motorola smartphone can also be wrapped around the wrist of its owner.

A smartphone AND a smartwatch?

Obviously very confident about its product, Motorola performed a live demonstration on stage at Lenovo Tech World. The technology seems to be on point, and we have to admit that the use seems simple, comfortable and all in all quite “natural”. Once wrapped around the wrist, the smartphone automatically transforms into a (very) large connected watch.

Beyond its ultra flexible side, the prototype presented by the manufacturer also has various functions linked to artificial intelligence, with an integrated assistant allowing in particular to carry out searches, scan documents, automatically blur sensitive data (like personal information) on a screenshot…

The integrated AI can also generate personalized wallpapers, based on the clothing worn by the user. In this way, the wallpaper displayed on the smartphone (and smartwatch) will constantly and perfectly match its owner’s outfit.

At present, this new type of mobile phone is only a prototype, and there is no indication that it will result in a terminal intended for the general public.

And you, what do you think of this flexible smartphone from Motorola?
