Connecting Alexa to Napster: That applies in Germany

NAPSTER

If you want to connect Alexa to Napster and play your playlists by voice command via Echo loudspeaker groups, you will get contradicting information – that’s what’s behind it.

You can also listen to Napster on the Echo – but not yet via a link with Alexa in Germany. (Source: Image: Amazon)

The Napster streaming service originally started out as a music sharing platform on the Internet, laying the foundation for today’s music streaming, so to speak. The former pioneer Napster is now completely legal and one provider among many.

If you have an audio streaming account with Napster and Alexa-compatible devices in the house, you usually want to listen to your playlists and song requests via the Amazon voice assistant on Echo speaker groups and when you do some research you quickly find out:

Napster and Alexa are compatible – at least that’s how the provider describes it on its German offer page. The catch: Napster cannot be coupled as a streaming service in the way described via the Alexa app, let alone set it up as a standard service for Alexa requests.

Napster in Germany not yet in the Alexa app

The problem here is probably the same as with streaming competitor Tidal: While the offer is already valid in the USA, the advertised bridge between Alexa and Napster has probably not yet been built in the German app either.

So you can probably only wait until Amazon integrates Napster into the selection of streaming services that can be connected in Germany, alongside Spotify and Apple Music. Until then, however, there are still a few detours that you can use to bring your Napster music to one or even more Echo speakers.

Napster on the Echo: It works with Bluetooth and Fire TV

While the direct coupling of Napster and Alexa is not yet possible in Germany, as is the case with the Napster spinoff Aldi Music, there are still ways to use the streaming subscription via Echo speakers.

All you have to do is set up a Bluetooth connection between the playback device with the Napster app or the web player and an Echo. You can read how this works in the linked detailed Netzwelt instructions.

If you want to listen to your Napster music via an Echo stereo pair, you can install the streaming service as an app on the Fire TV Stick and couple two identical Echos as TV speakers.

Listen to Napster for free on the Echo

If you don’t have a Napster account yet and want to try the streaming service in conjunction with an Echo speaker, you can do so as part of a 30-day trial period. Only then will the monthly fee of around 10 euros for the streaming subscription be charged.
