The audio streaming service Deezer, which was launched in France, is almost as old as the market leader Spotify, but in contrast to the Swedish pioneer, music subscriptions with high audio quality became a trademark early on.
Even though big competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music have now followed suit, audiophile streamers in around 180 countries continue to support Deezer. Deezer also offers free accounts – but without the great sound quality mentioned.
Can Alexa be connected to Apple Music?
Deezer is one of the handpicked selection of streaming services that can be linked directly to Alexa in Germany. With a Deezer subscription, you can also use Echo speaker groups and call up songs and playlists hands-free via the Amazon voice assistant. However, you must first connect your Deezer account to the Amazon network via the Alexa app.
The most important Alexa voice commands for Deezer
If an Echo device is within earshot or the blue button on an Alexa remote is pressed, you can access specific songs, playlists and genres on Deezer. Well-functioning voice commands are structured like this:
“Alexa, play ‘Back in Black’ by AC/DC on Deezer”, “Alexa, play classical music on Deezer”, “Alexa, start my ‘It’s the Weekend’ playlist on Deezer”.
Tip: In order to be able to keep the voice commands to Alexa even shorter, simply set Deezer as the default streaming service in the Alexa app under “Music and Podcasts”. Then you can simply omit the otherwise obligatory “on Deezer” in your requests.
Deezer Free vs Premium: What’s up with Alexa?
As with market leader Spotify, Deezer also offers free access to its music library. But, as expected, it has been slimmed down enormously: If you don’t want to pay for Deezer, you won’t hear any hi-fi quality either. In addition, you have to live with advertising and can only listen to music in the mobile app in shuffle mode.
If you use Deezer Free via Alexa, you also have to reckon with some restrictions: It is not possible to directly select songs or artist albums. You can also only play playlists in shuffle mode and only skip songs a limited number of times per hour. You can also hear advertising when using Deezer via Echo speakers.
Amazon Alexa: How to change the Deezer account
If you want to switch to another Deezer account that is not linked to a registered Alexa profile, you have only one option: deactivate the Deezer skill. Once you click “Activate for Use” again, you can log in with an alternative account.
If another Deezer account is linked to another profile in your Alexa app, after setting up a voice ID for all users, you can simply let Alexa recognize who is uttering a voice command – and the correct streaming account will be activated automatically.
