Consequences of the crisis: These stars have died of a corona infection

The devastating corona virus does not stop at celebrities either. In the past few weeks, numerous big names from the show business have died from the consequences of the virus – including a particularly large number of musicians and actors.

Two legends passed away

The world of jazz was particularly hard hit. Afro-jazz legend Manu Dibango (1933-2020) died on March 24 at the age of 86 in a French hospital, according to media reports. The also iconic US jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis Jr. (1934-2020) died shortly afterwards on April 1st in New Orleans, as his son told the "New York Times". Her colleagues, trumpeter Wallace Roney (1960-2020) and saxophonist Lee Konitz (1927-2020) have also been victims of the virus in recent days.

US singer Alan Merrill (1951-2020) is also forever associated with music history. Merrill, who died in New York at the end of March, was a co-author of the 1970s anthem "I Love Rock'n'Roll". Also from New York City comes the multi-Emmy and Grammy-winning musician and songwriter Adam Schlesinger (1967-2020), who died on April 1st at the age of 52.

Shortly thereafter, music producer Hal Willner (1956-2020) at the age of 64 succumbed to the consequences of a Covid 19 disease caused by the coronavirus. Country star John Prine (1946-2020) died on the same day, April 7th. His colleague Kris Kristofferson (83) jokingly noted many years ago that Prine was so good at writing songs that one day he would have had to break his fingers. Joe Diffie (1958-2020) was also a big name in the US country. During his career, he was able to accommodate 35 singles in the country charts of the music magazine "Billboard".

From "Crocodile Dundee" to "The Great White Shark"

The cinema landscape is also much poorer because of the corona-related deaths of numerous filmmakers. Mark Blum (1950-2020) was an American actor best known for his roles in the cult comedy "Crocodile Dundee – A Crocodile to Kiss" and in the series "Mozart in the Jungle". His colleague Lee Fierro (1929-2020), who passed away on April 5th, meanwhile played Mrs. Kinter in Steven Spielberg's (73) classic "The Great White Shark".

Spielberg just had to mourn the death of his cinematographer Allen Daviau (1942-2020), with whom he had shot "E.T. – The Alien" in the early 1980s. The director described Daviau as a "wonderful artist", whose warmth and humanity were as strong as his lens.

US actor Jay Benedict (1951-2020), who died on April 4th in London, has had an impressive number of roles in more than five decades – including James Cameron's (65) sci-fi classic "Aliens – The Return" and in Christopher Nolan's (49) Batman action "The Dark Knight Rises". Colleague Allen Garfield (1939-2020) became known alongside Gene Hackman (90) in Francis Ford Coppolas (81) "The Dialogue".

The actor Tim Brooke-Taylor (1940-2020), best known in Great Britain, was particularly famous for his participation in the comedy trio "The Goodies". But he also worked with the Monty Python greats Graham Chapman (1941-1989) and John Cleese (80). Forrest Compton (1925-2020), who died at the age of 94, was last seen in 2002 in a role in the series "Ed – The Bowling Lawyer". Previously, he had appeared in the sitcom classic "A cage full of heroes". The fans especially loved him for his role in the soap "The Edge of Night", for which he shot 430 episodes.

The British Andrew Jack (1944-2020) also died at the end of March of the consequences of an infection with the corona virus. Before his death, he worked on three films from the "Star Wars" universe – most recently on "Solo: A Star Wars Story". His compatriot Hilary Heath (1945-2020), on the other hand, came to worldwide fame much earlier. Alongside horror legend Vincent Price (1911-1993), she starred in "The Witch Hunter", "In the Death Grip of the Red Mask" and "The Death Cry of the Witches". Also of British origin was the nobleman, politician and author Lord Bath who died on April 4th and was known as an eccentric. Lord Bath was married to actress Anna Gaël (76), but the nobleman is said to have had more than 70 lovers during his life.
