Constantly empty battery in the Android smartphone? This app could be to blame

Barely unplugged, already empty again: If the smartphone battery gives up the ghost unusually quickly, there is often a technical defect behind it. If you also have this problem, a faulty Android app could be to blame. We explain what exactly is behind it and reveal a simple solution.

Modern Android smartphones have all sorts of security mechanisms designed to prevent a faulty app from affecting the entire device. Nevertheless, apps that do exactly that slip through from time to time. The most recent example is Google’s in-house news app.

the currently ensures that the battery of Android users empties unusually quickly. Reason is apparently a Bug in the Messages app, which is related to the camera (Source: 9to5Google). As with other messengers such as WhatsApp or Telegram, photos can also be sent via Google’s news app.

This is exactly where the problem lies, because the bug apparently ensures that the Messages app constantly accesses the camera – and so eats up the battery. The error should still occur even if the news app is running in the background, i.e. not closed manually.

So if you’re using Google’s messaging app and have been wondering about a sharp drop in battery life lately, this could be the root of the problem.

Until Google fixes the bug in the Messages app, there are two ways to fix the problem. First: Manually close the Messages app. It works as usual: open the recent apps menu, close the messaging app (swipe up until it’s gone) – done. However, this only solves the problem once.

If you want to solve it permanently, you have to Disallow the messaging app from accessing the camera. It works like this (see picture above):

• Open settings
• Go to Apps
• Select the messaging app (“Messages”)
• Go to Permissions
• Revoke camera access

disadvantage of the whole: After that, you can no longer send photos via the Messages app. So here you have to weigh up what is more important to you and, if necessary, use the first solution method until Google has fixed the bug.
