Construction supervisor, Méggane tells about her career

In the 21st century, there are still stereotypical jobs, yet women are just as capable of doing exactly the same jobs as men. Méggane, site supervisor, tells us about her profession.

Firefighter, policewoman, archaeologist or even a works supervisor, are professions that are too rarely heard in women. Fun fact: women also do this type of job and they do it brilliantly!

Méggane is one of those women who work in stereotypical professions. As a works supervisor, her mission is to manage construction sites, negotiate tariffs and manage teams made up of masons and site foremen.

"I was never disrespected after that"

However, the young woman initially wanted to become a veterinarian. “But I was not at all level. So I had to reorient myself ", she confides. She then goes on with a tiling cap then a masonry cap. She remembers the teasing she received during her journey. “One day I was on a construction site and the other men thought I couldn't use a jackhammer. So I grabbed a jackhammer and demolished a wall, I was never disrespected after that and I thank them ”, she confides.

At 24, she obtained her BTS alternately to become a works supervisor. "I have never met a woman in masonry, but we see more and more of them in painting and tiling", she recalls.

“Having women makes it possible to give a better image of work”

Today, she has been a construction supervisor for three years. “In my company, there are only two women, the secretary and me. I really like my job. We learn every day. We are facing different problems. You have to know how to learn and bounce back quickly ”, she confides. "It's a fascinating job, having women gives you a better image of work"

Since then, Méggane has received many messages of encouragement from others. "I've had pretty positive feedback, people always tell me it's great to see a woman in a man-made environment", she says. "People sometimes think that I am a secretary, there is always a little blank after"she laughs.

Despite everything, she regrets absolutely nothing. “If I had to do it all over again, I would do the exact same thing and I will also tell those who want to do my job not to be prejudiced. Either you don't like it or you find your way ", she concludes.

Thanks to Méggane Royeau for her testimony.
