“Context”, specialized digital media, celebrates its 10th anniversary without growing pains

After ten years of existence, the online media Context remains unknown to the general public, but no matter, it has established itself in the world of the specialized press alongsideAEF info or titles of the group Indigo Publications. The French company is so successful that it will soon have to move again to find more space. Launched in 2013 by entrepreneur Jean-Christophe Boulanger, journalist Clémentine Forissier and commercial director Chloé Moitié – three former members of the online media’s French office EURACTIV intended for European policy professionals –, Context is preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a new website going live on November 9. Its niche remains unchanged: following and telling an audience of specialists, from Paris and Brussels, the making of public policies concerning France.

“We want to explain the negotiations before the coin falls on one side or the other”explains the editorial director, Clémentine Forissier, who continues: “We exist for a target that needs to anticipate the regulation that will have an impact on its activity. » Among the 1,300 organizations that subscribe to Context in 2023 (i.e. around 12,000 readers), 65% come from the private sector (companies, lobbyists, investment funds, consultants, lawyers, but also unions, federations and NGOs) and 35% from the public sphere (French parliamentary assistant or European, ministerial cabinets, administration, ministers, advisors).

For this, nine sections have been created over the years. The “powers”, “energy”, “transport”, “agro”, “environment”, “health”, “e-health” verticals have been alongside two new ones since November 6, “tech” and “media”, from the “digital” section, now split in two. Also, different formats have been imagined: the daily summary (called “briefing” and sent in the form of a newsletter every morning from Monday to Friday), the analysis, the scoop and automated monitoring through its Scan tool. The latter should make it possible to send personalized alerts on legislative developments, sector by sector.
