Yann Sommer is again hardly allowed to advertise himself

Yann Sommer got off to an unfortunate start at Inter Milan: the Swiss made a mistake in a friendly, and the press and fans eyed the goalkeeper with suspicion. In the league, the ex-Bayern keeper is still waiting for opportunities to show his skills.
Inter Milan did not lose a point or concede a goal in the second league game of the new Serie A season at promoted Cagliari Calcio. Last season’s Champions League finalists had few problems with the Sardinian hosts and won comfortably 2-0 (2-0). Denzel Dumfries (21′) and Lautaro Martinez (30′) scored for Inter.
With Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer in goal, Inter are the only Serie A team to not concede a goal. In Cagliari, however, it wasn’t until the 90th minute that the Swiss really had to excel. The Milanese had also won the season opener against AC Monza 2-0. After the end of the second day of play, Inter are third in the table.
After his unfortunate debut in the test match against Red Bull Salzburg (4: 3), Sommer, for whom Inter transferred a total of around 8 million euros to Munich, was sharply criticized for several mistakes: “Summer, duck on his debut for Inter,” wrote “Tuttosport”, the “Gazzetta dello Sport” found at the time: “Basically, he didn’t have the security that you would expect from someone who the management had been chasing after for a long time.” Even after the completely safe 2-0 win against AC Monza at the start, Sommer still hadn’t convinced the observers: After an inconsistently blocked cross, the “Gazzetta dello Sport” stated again: “He doesn’t give the feeling of security”.
Thuram inspires the coach
Summer’s first opportunity to really excel in the league is now waiting: Inter will host AC Fiorentina on Sunday. The eighth of last season also started the season strongly with four points. Sommer’s predecessor in the Inter goal, Cameroon’s national goalkeeper André Onana, switched to Manchester United for more than 50 million euros after last season.
Before Sommer, who had played for Borussia Mönchengladbach for many years before his short spell at FC Bayern, his former team-mate Marcus Thuram had switched to the Nerazzurri. And the Frenchman, still awaiting his first goal, delighted his coach with his performance against the newly promoted: “The lads were brilliant. We interpreted the game well from start to finish. Cagliari played well in their opener and we had to organized and attentive; we did that brilliantly,” said Simone Inzaghi. “I’m happy for Thuram; he played really well. He worked hard from day one and adapted very quickly. I’m very happy; I just wish he had scored tonight because he deserved it. “
