WASHINGTON, Jan 6 (Reuters) – U.S. manufacturing activity contracted in December for the first time in more than two-and-a-half years as demand slowed, the Institute’s monthly survey shows. for Supply Management (ISM) published on Friday.
The ISM services index fell to 49.6 from 56.5 the previous month. Economists polled by Reuters on average expected a figure of 55.0.
The prices paid sub-index also fell, to 67.6 from 70.0. That of new orders received by companies in the sector fell to 45.2 last month, its lowest since May 2020, against 56.0 in November. (Lucia Mutikani, French version Laetitia Volga, edited by Blandine Hénault)
