Control 2: Excellent news, the game is confirmed and is already showing!

A sequel to the 2019 supernatural thriller, control, is therefore in the very early stages of development. The game is currently scheduled for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.

A collaboration with 505 Games

Developer Remedy Entertainment has confirmed news of a sequel for 2019’s hit title, stating that Control 2 will be a joint project with the publisher 505 Games (who had already edited the first control).

Control 2 (formerly known as Codename Heronwhich was thought to be a spin-off and not a sequel) will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and will be built on the engine Northlight from Remedy, the two teams announced.

Remedy will therefore publish the game on the PC platform and 505 Games will take care of the publication on the console platforms.

Remedy therefore leaves us with the only detail this unique piece of concept art that you can see on the announcement tweet above. Indeed, the Control 2 project would currently be just at the design stage.

The studio had already announced several projects in the universe of Jesse Faden this summer: initially a project under the name of condor-codewho will be a multiplayer title in the world of Control, but also a much more secretive game that will “expand the Control franchise with a Control game on a bigger budget“.

A bigger budget game

“I am now proud to confirm that the biggest budget game Control, also known as Codename Heron, is Control 2, a complete sequel to our award-winning game Control,” said Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainmentin a press release.

An “initial development budget” of 50 million euros has indeed been set as part of the co-development and co-publishing agreement with 505 Games. For exemple, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt cost $81 million. The first Control, meanwhile, had cost $30 million.

“With Control 2, we are going to take another leap into the unknown,” also said the game’s director, Mikael Kasurinen. “It will be an unexpected journey. It will take a while, but to be honest, this is the most exciting project I have ever worked on. It’s still early days, but the wait is worth it.”
