Snap announces the acquisition of NextMind, specializing in interfaces between the brain and computers

Snap pays the start-up NextMind

The Snap group, parent company of Snapchat, announced on Wednesday March 23 the acquisition of NextMind, which specializes in interfaces between the brain and machines. No information on the amount of this acquisition was given. The Parisian start-up had already presented a first product in 2020 which is similar to a non-invasive headband allowing you to control your computer or your VR headset, but also to unlock an iPad by thought. The product will, however, be discontinued with the company’s integration with Snap.

The 20 employees will keep their jobs and will still work in France but for the Snap Lab, taking care of the development of Spectacles glasses and a future drone. The American company also hopes to integrate NextMind’s brain computer interface technology into the next version of its AR glasses. The acquisition of the French start-up should allow the American group to strengthen itself in the augmented reality sector, on which it continues to invest and bet, but also to get ahead of some of its competitors like Meta and Apple.
