Conrad closes almost all branches

In the future, only business customers will be able to shop in branches of the electrical retailer Conrad. Private individuals, on the other hand, should only order their products online – with the exception of a single branch in Bavaria. It is unclear how many people lose their jobs as a result.

The electronics retail chain Conrad wants to close the majority of its current eleven branches. In the future, private customers will shop online, and new branches will be opened exclusively for business customers. The company announces this.

A branch in Hürth, North Rhine-Westphalia, already serves business customers exclusively. Only one of the others is to be preserved, namely in Wernberg-Köblitz – just like the company headquarters in Hirschau in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria. The private customer branches are mainly located in large cities, including Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

The announcement did not indicate how many employees were affected by the branch closures, and the company did not want to answer any further questions. “Of course, this step is very difficult for us,” said Ralf Bühler, CEO of Conrad Electronic. The company is in talks to find socially acceptable regulations.

According to the announcement, the reason for the branch closures is the increasing shift of retail to the Internet. At the same time, the company is currently looking for locations for new business customer branches.
