Cool SUV – Kia EV9: large electric vehicles in BMW iX format on the march

With the Concept EV9, the Korean car manufacturer Kia is showing another vehicle based on its new E-GMP electric platform at the LA Auto Show (November 19-28). The futuristic-looking show car gives a view of a larger SUV sister model of the well-known EV6.

At 4.93 meters, the EV9 is a good 25 centimeters longer than the EV6, which has been available from us since this year, so it is almost the length of the BMW iX. At 3.10 meters, the wheelbase is even 10 cm longer than in the Munich flagship and 20 cm longer than in the Kia EV6. In any case, the size of the boxy SUV is enough for a third row of seats, while the interior, largely in light gray, is airy and tidy. Among other things, recycled materials are used to underline the sustainable character of the EV9. There are no longer any switches or physical buttons in the cockpit. The shape of the steering wheel corresponds to a lying O. A huge 27-inch color display is floating freely on a stylishly illuminated dashboard. Handles on the doors hinged in opposite directions can no longer be seen. Instead of exterior mirrors, there are small camera holders for virtual exterior mirrors on the shoulder of the front door. The lights at the front and rear use different lighting technologies to give the vehicle its light signature. According to Kia, the unspecified electric drive should offer up to 300 miles and thus a range of around 480 kilometers and the battery with up to 350 kW in 20 to 30 minutes 10 to 80 percent fillable. Based on the E-GM platform, the EV9 should have rear-wheel or all-wheel drive with one or two motors of up to 440 kW / 600 PS.
