It was the bang of spring in the Swiss retail trade: Coop is taking over the DIY chain Jumbo from Manor owner Maus Frères. The news made the rounds on April 1st. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The Federal Competition Commission (Weko) still had to approve the deal.
That happened at the beginning of August. Coop can take over the 40 branches of the Jumbo DIY chain. The Comco has no objection to the takeover.
Merged two brands
Now it becomes clear: The name Bau + Hobby is history. “The Jumbo and Bau + Hobby brands will be merged and will in future be continued under the name Jumbo as a specialist format of the Coop Group,” says a press release.
The branch network of Jumbo with its 40 sales outlets complements the previous 84 locations of Bau + Hobby. With the takeover of Jumbo, the Coop Group confirms its market leadership in the DIY store sector.
Salaried employees will continue to be employed
The construction market is an industry with positive future prospects, believes Coop. All Bau + Hobby sales outlets and all Jumbo locations will continue to operate in full and the sales staff will continue to be employed. (pbe)
