Samsung cell phones will soon receive the update to Android 13 and One UI 5. The new software also includes revised widgets that are easier to use and offer a larger range of functions. The new battery widget in particular stands out, offering a better overview of connected devices. Apple is a role model.
It can happen at any moment: Samsung recently announced that the first Samsung smartphones should receive the update to Android 13 in October. The South Korean group took three months to adapt the software to its own Galaxy cell phones with One UI 5. Google completed Android 13 in July. But the wait was worth it, because there are some exciting innovations, especially with the widgets.
Android 13 and One UI 5 bring new battery widget to Samsung phones
The most interesting newcomer is this revised battery widget, which will probably move in with One UI 5. This is not yet available in the beta versions, but Samsung has already shown the widget as part of a preview (via: SamMobile).
The new battery widget clearly displays the battery status of all connected devices. This includes not only headphones (Galaxy Buds) or smartwatches (Galaxy Watch), even the charge level of an S Pen is displayed when the pen is connected – clever. The new battery widget should be particularly useful for users who are fully integrated into the Samsung ecosystem.
The battery widget will be available in two sizes: 4×1 and 4×2. In the small version, the widget only shows the battery status, while the larger version also shows the device name.
For iPhone owners, this is old hat. There has been a type of battery widget on Apple’s iOS for years.

Samsung Galaxy S22 will be the first to get Android 13
The industry leader has not yet revealed an exact date when Samsung will start the update to Android 13. But the order of the devices is already known: First, the current flagship generation of the South Koreans will receive the update, i.e.: Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra. Later, older devices and mid-range as well as entry-level smartphones come into their own.
