Copilot can now read a document for you and summarize it for you

Copilot is the latest generative AI to have the power to read a user-provided document and understand its subject. You just have to drag and drop it into the tool window so that it analyzes it in a few seconds and is able to carry out various tasks against it.

Who still needs it in the age of generative AI? This question is certainly tinged with a touch of cynicism, but it has the merit of being asked when it is now possible to paste entire sections of text into ChatGPT and ask it to summarize it for us. The OpenAI tool is not the only one: a few weeks ago, Adobe launched a similar solution within its Acrobat PDF reader.

Microsoft therefore had to catch up, which at all costs wants to impose Copilot, its own generative AI which transforms the way we use Windows, among users. Unsurprisingly, it is now possible to ask the latter to read a document for us, simply by dragging it into the box dedicated to it.

No more reading in Windows thanks to Copilot

For once, we owe this information to Leopova64, a famous leaker specializing in upcoming Windows new features. On his X account (Twitter), he shared a gif demonstrating the functionality. He simply drags and drops a PDF file into the Copilot sidebar, which the latter instantly begins to analyze.

Copilot then indicates when its analysis is complete. All that remains is for the user to tell them what to do. Leopova64 asks him in particular to summarize the document, which the AI does without difficulty in a second. But, as Copilot himself indicates, it is possible to ask him “anything”. It is therefore possible to ask him to write an appropriate response if it is an administrative document, or to correct the spelling and syntax if it is a homework assignment.

Copilot is not yet available in France, but Microsoft should soon deploy it via a next major update.
